The Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate Chip (PBC) Breakfast Wrap

JUMP TO RECIPE

The Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate Chip (PBC) Breakfast Wrap, a really, really long name for something absolutely simple and delicious.  I started making this breakfast wrap a couple of years ago as a healthier alternative to my chocolate addiction and it became a morning staple real quick.  The thing about this wrap is it takes less than five minutes to put together, is healthy AND delicious, and is extremely transportable.  I have eaten this wrap at my kitchen table, walking out the door, in my car, at a meeting at work, on vacation, you name it, it’s happened.  You can eat them hot or cold.  You can make them the night before or morning of.  You can toss them in a lunch box or a to-go bag.  This is one of those prep foods that makes life easier.  For me, this breakfast wrap is a non-negotiable and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Benefits of a Healthy Breakfast

  1. Regulates Hormones – A Healthy Breakfast balances your hunger hormones called leptin and ghrelin.  This meal will make it a lot less likely to overeat later in the day.  Bonus: it will also help with high-fat and sugary cravings that creep up mid-afternoon.

2. Kickstarts Metabolism – A Healthy Breakfast will replace any overnight depleted glucose and glycogen stores.  The meal will kickstart your metabolism and get you on the path to a day of healthy eating.

3. Encourages a Natural Circadian Rhythm – A Healthy Breakfast will encourage a natural circadian rhythm.  While your brain’s natural clock relies primarily on daylight, your organs related to metabolism are heavily reliant on the first meal of the day.  Make sure to eat at a consistent time to help your body understand the active phase of the day has begun.

4. Increases Energy & Focus – A Healthy Breakfast will increase your energy and focus.  The meal will give you better concentration, alertness, and mental performance at school and/or work.

5. Regulates Blood Sugar – A Healthy Breakfast will help regulate your blood sugar.  You can expect improved insulin sensitivity, slower digestion, and prevention of glucose spikes.

Tips for Creating a PBC Breakfast Wrap Made for YOU

  1. Tortilla Wraps – I started using these tortilla wraps as a healthier alternative and could not have been happier that I made the switch.  The thinner texture allows the flavor profile to concentrate on the ingredients instead of the wrap itself.  This particular brand of wraps gives an almost crepe-like feel to the breakfast, truly elevating the entire experience of the meal.
  2. Peanut Butter – Our family makes homemade peanut butter once a week that we use in this recipe.  In my opinion, going homemade will have you turning up your nose to store bought options.  But, it truly is so much more delicious and nutritious.  If you are interested in trying the recipe, you can find it here.
  3. Dark Chocolate – If you are looking for a healthier alternative, buy dark chocolate chocolate chips verses the traditional milk version.  I’ve tried a lot of chips on the market, but this brand is my favorite.
  4. Temperature – You can eat this wrap cold, warm, or hot.  If you have the time, warm it up in a pan on the stove.  But, 30 seconds in the microwave will do just fine.  If you prefer the crunch in your chocolate chips, enjoy the wrap cold.
  5. Powdered Sugar – The powdered sugar is, of course, optional.  If you’d like to keep it light, just use a strainer.  This will allow you to attain the powdered sugar flavor without overdoing the sweetness.
